Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now extended its functionality to include credit card transactions, representing a major upgrade in the digital payment sector. This development offers users the flexibility to conduct UPI transactions using their credit cards, enhancing the digital finance landscape.

Can You Use Credit Cards for UPI?
Indeed, it is possible to use credit cards for UPI transactions, although this feature is currently available only with certain issuers and banks. Make sure your card supports this feature before you proceed.

How to Link Your Credit Card with UPI:
1. Launch your UPI-enabled app, such as Airtel Thanks.
2. Go to 'Add Payment Method' and select the option for a credit card.
3. Enter your credit card details: card number, expiration date, and CVV.
4. Authenticate using the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
5. Set a UPI PIN for the credit card if prompted. Once linked, you can use your credit card for UPI payments just like a bank account or debit card.

Making Payments with Credit Card via UPI:
1. Choose UPI as the payment method during checkout.
2. Enter the UPI ID linked to your credit card.
3. Validate the payment in your UPI app using the set PIN. Note that the standard interest and fees apply if credit card payments are not completed on time.

Advantages of Using Credit Cards for UPI Payments:

  • Utilize the card’s credit period for better cash flow management.
  • Gather rewards through your card's reward program on transactions made via UPI.
  • Streamline financial management with a unified payment interface.
Utilizing credit cards with UPI not only augments both card and UPI ecosystem functionalities but also makes financial tasks like bill payments, shopping, or fund transfers more strategic.

Partnerships, such as between Airtel and Axis Bank, have introduced offerings like the Airtel Axis Bank Credit Card, which comes with benefits including cashback on bill payments and Airtel Thanks transactions, potentially leading to substantial yearly savings. These innovations enhance the financial toolkit and can be a valuable part of your financial planning strategy.

As the realm of digital payments progresses, these features are expected to significantly improve the accessibility and convenience of UPI transactions.
